Once things really got rolling, I was completely engaged in the story and stayed up too late several nights in a row trying to finish it. However, I did feel that sometimes there was a lot of description that prevented me from getting to the action. The benefit of this writing style is that everything about the world and setting feels quite real,and Spooner certainly has a knack for conveying sensory details. ![]() And I loved this spunky female Hood!Īfter the opening scenes, the pacing in a large chunk of the first part of the book did slow me down a bit, which is why I’m not giving the book a full 5 stars. A series of events leads Marian to unintentionally become “Robin Hood,” the people’s savior. And Maid Marian is left at home to pick up the broken pieces of her heart. The opening scene of Sherwood drew me in right away, with its shocking depiction of Robin’s death. So far, I think it is the best Robin Hood retelling I’ve read. And Sherwood is another wonderful addition to Spooner’s collection of novels.
